October 1, 1999 (Redmond, OR) Dave Morss and the Lancair-Neico Aviation sponsored Lancair IV, N409L or #99, took the Gold again at the 1999 Reno Air Races in the Sport Class.

N409L qualified at 335 m.p.h. and won the Gold Race at 319 m.p.h.. Continental built a special TSIO-550 for the race. The engine was balanced, blueprinted and fit with oversized turbos for added boost. Hartzell Propeller built a special 3 blade prop designed to turn more RPM for the race. The whole combination proved to be awesome. Much thanks goes to everyone who helped win this prestigious race! Founded in 1984 by Lance Neibauer, Lancair has become one of the most successful kit aircraft manufacturers in the world. The company, manufacturers of the world's fastest piston-driven aircraft, owns several world speed records as well as championships in most major cross-country air races. The Columbia 300 is Lancair's first certified airplane.
